The Apocalypse Merchant – 08

Chapter 8

4.10 a.m. Three days after the apocalypse began.

When Murong Jiao arrived at the outskirts of J City, the sun had already risen. It is too soon for the sun to rise that high. She parked the off-road vehicle on the side of the road, turned off the engine and scanned the surroundings for a while.

Sitting behind the steering wheel, she saw bloodstains everywhere, but not even a single zombie or human figure in sight. It was eerily quiet. Not knowing what happened here, she waited in the car for a long time while maintaining a high level of vigilance.

Half an hour later, the sun had risen higher. If someone looked at the position of the sun, they would think it was noon, instead of 4:40 am. After sitting quietly for so long, her nerves were tense. Suddenly, the sound of chickens fighting came from nowhere.

“Kack! Kack!”

Her heart beat faster when she heard the sound. She patted her heart, thinking that she was almost killed by a chicken. After calming down, her eyes suddenly lit up. In the past three days, she has been to several places, but she has never seen a live animal. Not even stray dogs or cats.

Out of curiosity, she grabbed her baseball bat and got out of the car. With a thought, she keeps the car back into the spirit courtyard. As she practiced every day and worked hard to collect materials, her proficiency in storing and retrieving items in the spirit courtyard had improved by leaps and bounds.

Now, she can already store and retrieve things without needing to touch them directly. Although she can only reach less than three meters away, she is still very happy. This new found ability cuts down on her gathering time a lot, as she can collect a bunch of stuff at once. Maybe if she continues to practice, even a building can be moved into her spirit courtyard one day in the future.

Standing on the silent street, she gripped the baseball bat tightly and took a step forward. Suppressing her fear, she took a few deep breaths and walked as quietly as possible. Walking towards the direction of the sound, the sound of chickens fighting became louder and louder.

“Kack! Kack!”

She looked at the wooden door in front of her for a while, and heard the sound again.

“Kack! Kack!”

Judging from the chicken’s crowing, this is not a zombie chicken. Raising her hand, she summoned up her courage and slowly pushed open the wooden door.

Creak~

The wooden door was pushed open with a low creaking sound. When the wooden door was half opened, Murong Jiao waited for a while. Seeing that no chickens came to attack her, she pushed the wooden door wider.

She slowed her breathing and glanced through the small gap between the wooden doors. After a glance, her body froze for a few seconds, and then her eyes lit up. What did she see on the other side?

It’s a flock of chickens! Not Zombie Chicken!

She observed the roosters and hens for a while, and found that they were at least four or six times the size of ordinary chickens. Even those fluffy yellow chicks are at least three times the size of ordinary chicks. Looking at those lively chickens, a thought popped in her mind.

Although her spirit courtyard is powerful and there are countless supplies in the warehouse, there are no living things in it. She’s already amassed a lot of frozen meat and seafood, but if she can’t produce it herself, that stuff will eventually run out. Seeing this flock of chickens, she already has plans to raise livestock.

If she could raise those hundred-plus roosters, hens, and chicks, she could produce an endless supply of eggs and chicken meat. She can eat as much as she wants in the future!

After thinking about it, she quickly took out a handful of grain from her warehouse. Holding a baseball bat in her right hand and a handful of grain in her left, she pushed open the wooden door and walked in carefully.

The house is a typical suburban home with a large yard in the front and farmland in the back. She walked slowly into the yard and observed the flock of lively chickens there. When she was three meters away from the chickens, she directly pulled the chickens into her spirit courtyard.

Next to the farmland is a vast open meadow. She thought about it and put those chickens there, away from her plants and other buildings. When she had just put half of the chickens into her spirit courtyard, the leader of the chickens, the largest rooster, suddenly stopped fighting the other rooster.

The rooster got angry when it saw that only half of the chicken was left. It looked around and saw that she had stuffed another batch of chickens into her spirit courtyard. The rooster became even angrier when it saw that its same kind suddenly disappeared after the human approached them.

“Kack!!”

Knowing that the jumbo rooster’s new target was herself, Murong Jiao quickly raised her baseball bat to meet the big rooster’s sharp talons. As the rooster’s talons approached her menacingly, she raised her baseball bat to block the attack.

Kiit~!

The loud scraping sound made her teeth ache. With the force of the rooster’s attack, she was pushed back and fell to the ground.

“Ow..”

“Kack!”

Hearing the loud noise of the rooster, she reflexively threw the grain in her left hand at the rooster. The handful of grains hit the rooster’s head successfully. The rooster was startled by her sudden attack, but felt no pain at all.

“Kack?”

The rooster that fell on the ground looked dazed, and before it had time to think about what had just happened, the other chickens had rushed to the rooster’s place, pecking at the grains that fell on the ground. Seeing the chaos in front of her eyes, Murong Jiao quickly pulled the rest of the chickens that were still fighting each other for those grains into her spirit courtyard.

In the next second, she slumped to the ground, panting heavily. After the chickens disappeared, the noisy yard suddenly fell silent. She got up from the dirty ground and calmly patted the dirt on her body. She never knew that fighting against chickens was harder than fighting zombies.

After making sure that no chicken was left behind, she entered the spirit courtyard and appeared on the meadow. As soon as she appeared, a sharp claw approached her with an angry rooster scream.

“Kack!”

Knowing that it was the rooster that she was fighting with just now, she used her spiritual power to subdue it easily. In this spirit courtyard, she is the god. Nothing can hurt her or fight against her.

After waiting for a while, the noisy flock of chickens finally quieted down under her mental coercion. She looked at the obedient chickens and nodded with satisfaction. Since there are chickens, she has to build a chicken coop to raise them.

With a thought, she cut down a bunch of trees from the forest, and built a large chicken coop within a few minutes. When the coop was ready, she put the chickens in and dug a channel from a nearby stream to the coop. With this waterway, she doesn’t have to worry about running out of water for her chickens to drink.

After preparing the water for the chickens, she prepares the feeding places for the chickens before placing the grain. She has no chicken feed for the time being, and there is too much grain in the warehouse. From now on, she will use these grains as feed for chickens and harvest the fields every two days.

Seeing those fierce chickens becoming docile and obediently staying in the chicken coop, she smiled, and then flashed out of the spirit courtyard.
