The Apocalypse Merchant – 13

Chapter 13

With the invisibility talisman attached to her body, Murong Jiao walked as quietly as possible, and followed the fifty soldiers at a distance. This mall is not as big as the one near her university, but the traffic is higher. As soon as she came in, she was surprised to see the bloody battle in front of her.

The soldiers move methodically, killing each zombie with the perfect headshot. The moment the bullet was fired, the zombie’s head exploded when it touched the bullet. She didn’t know what bullet they used, but she shuddered watching the explosion the bullet caused.

Luckily, she has this invisibility talisman. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even dare tailing them. After a while, the ground was full of mutilated zombie parts, thick black blood, and suspicious milky white liquid.

Looking at the bloody scene in front of her, Murong Jiao felt her stomach churning, nauseated and wanted to vomit. She couldn’t bear it anymore, and quickly flashed into the bathroom in the spirit courtyard, and vomited out her last meal.

“Blergh… Uh…”

After throwing up everything, she sat limply on the bathroom floor and rubbed her sore stomach. After a while, she got up from the floor and rinsed her mouth. This was the first time she saw such a scene after the end of the world began.

She thought what she saw before was already bloody. But when she saw the bloody scene just now, her confidence was shattered. After rinsing her mouth countless times, she looked up at the mirror on the wall. Looking at her sickly pale face on the reflection, she couldn’t help sighing. She is still too weak.

After coming out of the bathroom, she went to the kitchen to drink a glass of water. Putting down the empty glass on the dining table, she took a few deep breaths and left the spirit courtyard. Back at the mall, as soon as she came out, she was overwhelmed by the smell of blood and rotting meat, as she quickly held her breath.

Pinching her nose, she quickly took out a gas mask from the warehouse. Putting on the gas mask, she breathed out a sigh of relief. After wearing the gas mask, it is not so uncomfortable. Only now, she looks like a weirdo with a big gas mask covering her entire face. Fortunately, she is now invisible.

After taking a few normal breaths, she cautiously poked her head out of her hiding place. The soldiers had already gone in groups of two to fetch supplies. She saw the soldier that was pointing his weapon at her before, standing not far away.

He was busy collecting winter clothes and packing them into empty boxes he found in the back of the store. She was curious as to why he had to collect the winter clothes when it was so hot, so she approached cautiously. When she’s close enough to see everything he’s doing, she observes the clothes he picks out.

The clothes he chose were those thick and long winter coats. He even collected the ski equipment from a small room in the back of the shop. He acts as if severe winter is coming soon.

After he finished packing and moved out those boxes, Murong Jiao hurried into the store and put away the remaining quarter of the supplies. She didn’t dare to clean up yet, for fear that he would come back. And just as she expected, the man really came back and continued to pack the supplies.

Seeing that he didn’t find that a quarter of the supplies were missing, she went to other stores to do the same. She is also not polite to stores that they do not care about, such as mother and baby stores, toy stores, and takes everything away. When they finished loading the five trucks, she saw that there were still plenty of supplies left.

When they went to the basement floor to clean up the zombies, she hurriedly cleaned up the remaining supplies. With their caution, not a single zombie was left when the area was cleared. Thanks to their efforts, she didn’t have to worry about zombies running out to greet her with foul breath.

Running down from the top floor, she hurried to the underground. Before she could take a few steps down, she heard loud gunshots echoing from below. Lowering her body, she slowly walked to the basement.

Sure enough, on the basement floor, there was also a bloody scene, with rotting mutilated corpses everywhere. This time, there were not as many zombies as upstairs so the scene is not too unbearable. She only had to wait a few minutes before the head of the last zombie was exploded by the soldiers.

Seeing the scene in front of her, she was feeling sick again. Fortunately, her gas mask can block most smells in the air. Otherwise, she doesn’t know how she could live in this apocalyptic world. In that case, she might as well hide in the spirit courtyard for the rest of her life.

When she was still fighting back her nausea in the middle of the stairs, the soldiers entered the large supermarket without changing their expressions. Seeing their cool appearances, she suddenly felt a little envious. When she felt better, she quickly followed behind them, while walking carefully among the rotten flesh scattered on the ground.

Walking into a large supermarket, she saw the same layout as the one she had cleaned up before. Looks like these malls were owned by the same people before the end of the world. She watched quietly as the soldiers packed bags of rice, boxes of canned food and mineral water. Some soldiers also cleaned up common medicines sold in supermarkets.

A group of ten soldiers went to blow up the heavy metal door at the back of the supermarket. She knew that they also wanted to get more supplies from the warehouse, so she waited quietly at the corner of the supermarket. After squatting in the corner for nearly an hour, she finally saw the soldiers carrying the boxes upstairs. As before, she waited for them to finish moving the supplies before cleaning up the remaining supplies.

This time, she didn’t have much problem storing supplies in the warehouse. That’s because this warehouse does not use shelves like the one before, but instead stacking those boxes so high up to the ceiling.

Seeing that there were still a lot of supplies left, she was not polite, and took them all away before walking up to the ground floor quickly. If she wants to keep up with the soldiers going out of this central district, she has to hurry up. As soon as she ran up from the underground stairs, she bumped into one of the soldiers.

Bang!

The soldier she hit took a step back and cursed. “What the hell?!”

“What happened?” Another soldier behind him asked vigilantly.

“Something hit me.” He rubbed his aching chest as he answered his teammate.

Murong Jiao covered her mouth and her aching forehead, and stepped away from him quickly. She saw him look around warily, then held out his hand. With the movement of his arm, her heart beat faster and faster, as she took a few more steps back and went downstairs.

His teammates looked at what he was doing and asked confusedly, “What are you doing?”

The soldier still probed the air with his hands, and replied in a serious tone. “I just got hit by someone. That person must still be around.”

After listening to him, the man behind him opened his backpack and took out the high-tech glasses. Murong Jiao immediately knew what kind of glasses the moment she saw them. Before the soldiers put on their thermal and night vision glasses, she flashed back into her spirit courtyard. As soon as the soldier looked ahead, she disappeared.

The soldier had a goosebump all over his body when he saw a trace of body temperature disappearing suddenly. He pointed to where Murong Jiao was, swallowed, and whispered to his teammates.

“Th.. There… Something just disappeared a few seconds ago.”

Hearing his words, his teammate was still rubbing his painful chest. He looked at the stairs in front of him, but saw nothing. He moves around with his hands, but still doesn’t hit anything.

He glanced back at the man wearing thermal glasses and asked, “Are you sure?”

The teammate nodded repeatedly and said, “Should we report to the captain? This is very spooky.”

The man squinted his eyes and looked at his teammates, “You are not afraid of zombies, but you fear ghosts?”

Seeing that his teammate didn’t speak, he could only nod his head, and the two walked back to find their captain to report what just happened. In the spirit courtyard, Murong Jiao almost had a heart attack. Panting heavily on the living room floor, she quickly stood up and ran to the second floor.

Opening the corner room on the second floor, she looked at the mirrors inside the room and walked in. This room is a mirror room, and all sides of the room are mirrors, including the ceiling. She let the door open as she looked in the mirror, and saw two soldiers walking away.

Patting her chest, she couldn’t help but thank the first patriarch again for his considerate mind. With this mirror room, she can observe the situation outside before leaving the spirit courtyard. Although she could leave the spirit courtyard with the help of her spirit body and move outside freely, at her current spiritual level, she couldn’t do it at all.

Seeing that the surroundings were clear, she quickly flashed out of the spirit courtyard and went up to the ground floor. As soon as the soles of her shoes touched the ground floor, she saw that all the soldiers were wearing the same thermal and night vision glasses.

“It’s here!”

Hearing the soldiers’ shouts, she flashed back to her spiritual court without hesitation.
