Chapter 29
The short-haired woman looked at Murong Jiao’s face for a few minutes before turning to her sister. Gritting her teeth, she looked back at Murong Jiao’s calm face and said, “Thank you.”
Murong Jiao walked to them and helped the short-haired woman to lift the unconscious woman into the car. After helping them sitting in the back row, she sat back in the driver’s seat and looked at the short-haired woman from the rearview mirror.
“There’s a bottle of mineral water by the door. It’s new. You can give her some water to dehydrate her.”
After speaking, she started the car and drove back to the base. After feeding her sister a few sips of water, the short-haired woman said, “Thank you. My name is Tang Shulian, and this is my sister Tang Shulan.”
“My name is Murong Jiao.”
After a brief introduction, the two of them stopped talking until they arrived at the Diyu Base entrance. Seeing the familiar tall and thick metal wall, Murong Jiao glanced at the two sisters from the rearview mirror, and said, “This is the Diyu Base. This is a good place to live.”
Slowing down, she parked the car on the side of the road, got out of the car and helped Tang Shulian to carry Tang Shulan down. After closing the door, she looked at them and said, “You need to pay to get in. Do you have supplies or crystal nucleus?”
Tang Shulian looked embarrassed, and said, “We were robbed by my classmates, and my sister was stabbed while protecting me.”
The meaning is very clear. They have nothing. Murong Jiao scratched her cheek, thought for a while and said, “Why don’t I lend you some crystal nucleus first, and you can return them to me later.”
Tang Shulian raised her head and stared at Murong Jiao. After a long silence, she finally asked, “Why did you help us?”
Murong Jiao smiled at her and answered her lightly. “I’m a merchant and I love making connections. Helping you today paves the way for me later.”
“Why are you so sure that I will return the favor to you?” Tang Shulian asked again.
“You could say it’s my sixth sense.” She replied with a smile.
“So do you want a loan?” She asked again.
Tang Shulian looked at her unconscious sister and said, “I’ll take it.”
Taking out a small purse, Murong Jiao handed it to her. “There are fifty ordinary crystal nuclei here. It is enough for you to apply for a temporary residence permit, rent a small room, buy some daily necessities, and live for ten days. I believe you will find a way to make a living within ten days.”
Taking the small purse, Tang Shulian looked at her and asked, “How can I find you?”
“Go to the night market. I always open a stall there every night. If you can’t find my stall, ask the patrolling soldiers. They will show you the way.”
After speaking, she touched the car to put the car back in the warehouse, and then walked towards the smallest gate. Tang Shulian, who was standing behind her, looked at the small purse containing fifty crystal nuclei with complicated eyes.
Sighing, she looked at her sister and said, “Sister, let’s go.”
Walking to the pedestrian gate, Murong Jiao saw that the female soldier was still on duty, so she hurriedly went up to meet her. Seeing Murong Jiao coming, the female soldier was relieved. A rare smile appeared on the cold face, welcoming her back.
“Welcome back, Jiaojiao.”
“Good evening, sister.”
Murong Jiao stood beside her, returned the handgun to her, and whispered: “Thank you sister.”
The female soldier took the handgun and checked it. Seeing it’s unused, she nodded to her. “Um.”
Glancing at her watch, it was already nine o’clock in the evening, and she said, “Sister, I’m going to report for a mission. See you later.”
Knowing that she was going to set up a stall in the night market, the female soldier nodded. “Ok, bye.”
She waved to the female soldier and went to line up at the gate. Tonight, the gate of Diyu Base was as lively as ever. The queues are never short. Standing on the line, Murong Jiao observed the area and saw many new faces. It wasn’t long before it was her turn to enter the base.
“Hello, brother.” Greeting the soldier at the gate, she gave him her name tag.
“You’re back. How did it turn out? Do you have enough supplies to complete the mission?” The soldier asked, while scanning her name tag.
“I barely get enough supplies.” She didn’t bat an eye when she lied.
Hearing her answer, the soldier returned her name tag and sighed. “It’s hard for you.”
Taking her name tag, she smiled and said, “No matter how difficult it is, I will do it.”
The soldier looked at her and smiled. “That’s right. We still need to do it.”
“Then I’ll go first, brother. See you later.”
“Okay.”
After completing the formalities, she walked to the mission hall. On the way, she saw many thin people in dirty clothes sitting or lying on the side of the road. When she left the base this morning, there was still no one.
‘I don’t know what the base will do with these people. Did something happen outside?’
While guessing and observing those people, she walked towards the mission hall. When she arrived at the mission hall, she saw that the number of people in the mission hall was more than double that of when she came in the morning. Looking at the crowded mission hall, she felt a little headache.
Luckily for her, the line to report the mission wasn’t as long as the others. After queuing for more than thirty minutes, it was finally her turn. She smiled and said to the female employee: “I want to report my mission.”
The female employee looked up and saw that it was her, and smiled while saying: “Follow me.”
“Um.”
Under the watchful eyes of those strangers, the two walked into the back room. Walking in the long corridor, she asked the female staff curiously.
“What happened today? There are a lot of new faces.”
The female employee sighed and said, “I know, right. The newcomers had been making trouble since the morning, and they only stopped making trouble after Commander Cao dispatched special forces to maintain order. “
“What happened?”
“I heard that they are refugees from those small bases.”
“Refugees?”
The female employee looked at her surprised expression and said in a low voice. “You don’t know? I heard that those small bases were destroyed by zombies. When the temperature stabilized, they said that the first rank zombie was discovered.”
With her eyes widened, she lowered her voice and asked, “Aren’t there only ordinary zombies now?”
“I’m not sure. But judging from the current situation, the rumors should be true. They said that first rank zombies can kill a team of superhuman beings.” She answered Murong Jiao’s question with some fear.
“So powerful? How can we survive if zombies are always getting stronger than humans?”
“Yes. We can only hope that our base is strong enough to resist the zombies.”
Opening the door of the warehouse, the female employee said, “Supplies can be placed here.”
“Okay.”
She and the female employee went to the corner to store staple food and took out 50 bags of rice. The female employee counted the rice and said, “You have 500 kg of rice. Jiaojiao, you are amazing.”
Murong Jiao looked at her with a smile and said, “I’m just lucky.”
The female employee smiled at her but said nothing. Who doesn’t know that this petite young woman always completes the supply mission with excellent results every time she goes out? In this Diyu Base, no one can match her luck.
After recording 50 bags of rice, the female employee said: “You take this piece of paper and go to the counter to receive the mission reward.”
“Okay. Thank you sister.”
“Um.”
Murong Jiao took the paper, walked out of the warehouse, walked along the long corridor, and came out from the back room of the mission hall. Not everyone can go to the mission hall warehouse. Only those who have received S-rank supply missions are eligible to go there.
Pushing open the door, a soldier greeted her and said, “Miss Murong, the Commander wants to see you.”
